The city of Myrtle Creek estimates it will save about $20,000 if it shuts off about half the lights in town, and it will all go to their street maintenance program. They say they will only shut off those in the middle of  city blocks.

The Tri City and Myrtle Creek Fire Departments were called to a house on Klimback Street, and thanks to the quick response, officials say the blaze was extinguished in about 10 minutes.

The road from Riddle to Myrtle Creek was packed with spectators Saturday night, waiting in anticipation of the annual Timber Truckers Light Parade. The annual trucker's light parade starts at D.R. Johnson Lumber Company in Riddle.

Motorcycle riders collected toys in southern Douglas County over the weekend. They were led by Santa himself, and Frosty the Snowman also joined in on a cool dry day. It was the 11th annual Un-organized South County Toy Run.

Hubert Weakley, 84, was found dead inside his travel trailer at the Rivers West trailer park in Myrtle Creek, Ore., after firefighters put out the blaze. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said an autopsy is planned but that there is no indication of foul play.
