At the Wildlife Safari in Winston, a dog and a cheetah have become unlikely pals.

A wanted man behind the wheel of a Nissan sedan and armed with a dagger and a sword led Douglas County Sheriff's deputies on a 100 mph chase in Winston, Ore., Thursday afternoon before crashing his car on the side of Interstate 5.

A small dog bit a recycling center employee on the hand as the worker reached into the cab of a truck Wednesday. The Douglas County Environmental Health Division is asking for the public's help locating the dog for observation purposes.

Winter weather and rain may shut down some zoos or theme parks, but for many rare animals in Winston, it's just another day at the Safari, but dropping temperatures and colder weather present some cause for concern.

The Lady Trojans are few in numbers this season as Class 4A Douglas sports just 13 players in the entire basketball program.

The Douglas boys are regrouping after a last-place Far West League finish a year ago. There's a new look and a new attitude this year as first-year head coach Brad Cavens takes over  the program.

Due to a power outage in the Winston area, some schools and classes have been canceled. Brockway School in Winston will be closed Wednesday due to a power outage. Brockway students will be transported to McGovern School for parent pickup.

The Winston city council wants their attorney to find out who owns the Riverside Center. The council directed the attorney to investigate who is actually the owner of the center, and to determine if it is still operational.
