A car hit two high school girls walking home from school Tuesday. One girl escaped unscathed, but the other suffered a broken ankle. Police cited the driver on suspicion of careless driving and failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian on a sidewalk.

A small dog bit a recycling center employee on the hand as the worker reached into the cab of a truck Wednesday. The Douglas County Environmental Health Division is asking for the public's help locating the dog for observation purposes.

Most people would cringe at the thought of waking up a sleeping bear. For the staff and bears at the Wildlife Safari, it's all part of the routine. Even while the sleeping giants hibernate, staff members still have to check on them.

Winter weather and rain may shut down some zoos or theme parks, but for many rare animals in Winston, it's just another day at the Safari, but dropping temperatures and colder weather present some cause for concern.

According to Pacific Power, electric service has been restored to the Green and Winston area. The American Red Cross had opened two daytime warming shelters for residents impacted by today's utility outages, and they are now closed.

Due to a power outage in the Winston area, some schools and classes have been canceled. Brockway School in Winston will be closed Wednesday due to a power outage. Brockway students will be transported to McGovern School for parent pickup.

The Winston city council wants their attorney to find out who owns the Riverside Center. The council directed the attorney to investigate who is actually the owner of the center, and to determine if it is still operational.
